Vendsyssel Historical Museum

 

Museum of Vendsyssel's history is the old regional museum of Vendsyssel with exhibits in different places spread out in the region:

 

Hjørring:

Hjørrings beautiful old rural deanery and a number of the town's oldest school buildings are home to extensive exhibitions from the Stone Age to modern times. Here is both a large idyllic garden and a herb garden with medicinal plants.

1. May-15. September: 11-17

16. September-30. April: Tuesday-Friday 11-16, Sunday 13-16. 

 

Hirtshals:

In Hirtshals visitors can see a fisherman's home from around 1912 along with exhibitions about fishery.

16. June-15. September: Monday-Friday 10-16, Saturday 10-14.

16. September-15. June: Tuesday-Thursday 11-16, Friday 11-13 

 

Hirtshals:

The Bunker Museum in Hirtshals is Denmark's only excavated, complete German defence installation from World War II open to the public. In all the area contains 70 different locations connected by 3,5 km of trenches.

Opening hours:

The museum area with trenches and a few open bunkers: Always.

Bunker 2(information exhibition and personnel bunker): May, June and September: Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July, August and week 42: Daily 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The other exhibition bunkers can be visited in connection with guided tours. For further information please call the museum. 

 

 

Mosbjerg:

The Mosbjerg branch is situated in the midst of a landscape of great natural beauty. The museum is a smallholding where old species of animals are bred. During school holidays the smallholding is inhabited by "smallholding families".

Rubjerg:

The branch in Rubjerg tells the story of the old lighthouse Rubjerg Knude Fyr, which was decommissioned in 1968. The area is troubled by drifting sand which has covered several buildings, leading to the lighthouse being closed off.

Vendsyssel Historiske Museum's new place in the area is Jens Thomsens Farm (The Bailiff's Farm in Rubjerg), which contains exhibitions about the culture of the seaside and the history of the nature.
